Vintage 1955 Pierre Levegh and John Fitch Photo 24 Hours of Le Mans Disaster.

This is a vintage 1955 photo of Pierre Levegh (right) and John Fitch, casualy discussing prior to the 1955 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.

Levegh's Mercedes 300 SLR would plough into the main grandstand at the start finish line after a mere 34 laps at around 18.26H local time, instantly killing Levegh (real name Pierre Bouillin) before the eyes of his wife and 82 spectators. It is widely considered to be the worst motorracing accident in history.

Images of Levegh outside his racing car are rare and this is a great opportunity to acquire a VINTAGE photo of the man.

It measures some 17 x 23 cm of 5.75 x 9.5 inches.

The race was won by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb in their Jaguar D-Type (S/N XKD505) with a total of 307 laps to their name.
