Vintage 1955 photo of MG EX182 at Abingdon ready for the 24 Hours of Le Mans

LM1955-01

Vintage 1955 photo of MG EX182 at Abingdon ready for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This is a vintage 1955 photo taken at the Abingdon Competition Department showing three EX-182's ready to be shipped to the 24 Heures du Mans.

In the picture we see LBL301 with race number 41, LBL302 with race number 42 and a third unnumbered car.

The EX182 was a direct pre-production racing car specifically built for the 1955 running of Le Mans to show case the upcoming MGA.

Both cars (LBL 301 & LBL 302) had to be renumbered upon arrival at Le Mans and it is assumed the # 40 became # 41 and # 41 became # 42. The # 40 went to an Osca MT4 1500.

# 40 (in the photo) was driven by Ken Miles & John Lockett to 12th spot overall with 249 laps to their name.

# 41 (in the photo) was crashed by Dick Jacobs in lap 26 before Joe Flynn could take the wheel.

A HIGHLY interesting piece of Abingdon and MGA history!

The photo measures some 15 x 10 cm or 6 x 4 inches.

The back carries NO photographer's stamp.

The race was won by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb in their Jaguar D-Type (S/N XKD505) with a total of 307 laps to their name.
