The 1972 Le Mans poster is part of the "The Global Appeal of the Race" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1972 to 1974.

The color illustration is from the hand of Jean Jacquelin while the overal design and production were in the hands of Le Pilier Vert publishing in Le Mans.

The return of an abstract drawing, by J. Jacquelin, uses the new section of the track between Arnage and the grandstands.

This was the result of the organiser' determination to cut out the Maison Blanche corners that had become too dangerous due to the increase in performance and speed of the cars.

In 1969, British driver John Wolfe had lost his life on that section of the track in his nr. 10 Porsche 917.

The 1972 race was won by Henri Pescarolo & Graham Hill in their # 15 Matra Simca MS670 with a total of 344 laps to their name.

For the full results of this race, please see 24 Heures du Mans results 1972.
