Vintage Original 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans Poster - MINT CONDITION !

Vintage Original 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans Poster.

June 21 & 22, 1958.

It measures approximately:
11 x 15 inches
28 x 38 cm

They still do turn up!

This is an extremely scarce example of the 1958 24 Heures du Mans poster.

It is in in as mint a condition as a poster of over half a century old can be; truly SPECTACULAR!

This poster comes from a the estate of a former marshal at Le Mans who died recently and when his grandchildren cleared out his house, they found these posters neatly tucked away in a cabinet drawer in the attic where they had been, untouched, since 1958!

The 1958 Le Mans poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.

The design of the 1958 poster was by Michel Beligond and was his first work for the Le Mans 24 hours race.

Beligond was preceded by Geo Ham and Jeudon and the switch to the new artist immediately gave a more realistic rendering of the race.

The car is going into the Dunlop curve, just having passed under the famous Dunlop bridge.

The night and the crowd are of course present but Beligond is not too concerned about depicting a real race but instead shows the make that was favorite for the 1958 race, Ferrari!

The race was indeed won by Olivier Gendebien and Phil Hill in their Nr. 14 Ferrari 250 TR58 with a total of 305 laps to their name.

For the full results of this race, please see 24 Heures du Mans results 1958.

This poster is VERY scarce!

Vintage 1958 photo of Aston Martin DB3S 62EMU at scrutineering at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

This is a GREAT shot of Aston-Martin DB3 S "62 EMU" at the scrutineering before the 1958 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The car was driven to second place with 293 laps, 12 laps behind the winning Ferrari 250TR of Paul Frere and Phil Hill, by Graham and Peter Whitehead.

The photo was shot by H. Beroul, a photographer from Le Mans and it carries its stamp on the back

This is a vintage photo, i.e. it was printed shortly after the image was captured on film.

Dimensions: approximately 5.5 x 3.5 inches or 14 x 9 cm.

The race was won by Olivier Gendebien & Phil Hill in their # 14 Ferrari 250 TR58 with a total of 305 laps to their name.
